Arsenic in Private Well Water
Arsenic is a naturally occurring element found in Iowa's underground rock and soil deposits. It can dissolve into groundwater, and high levels of arsenic can cause serious health problems over time. Several Iowa counties are at a higher risk for arsenic contamination. Iowa INSIGHT provides free well water testing for arsenic and other trace metal contaminants, and counties can take local action to increase awareness about arsenic in well water and prevent exposure.
